Scottish women 'unaware' of breast cancer
A charity has claimed that Scottish women are unaware of warning signs of breast cancer. Breakthrough Breast Cancer found out that one in six women couldn't name any symptoms of the disease. It means that they are not likely to catch it in its early stages.
The organization is going to encourage Scottish women to become more aware by checking their breasts for lumps, hard knots and thickening. Audrey Birt, the charity's director, said: "Our message is show your breasts some TLC - touch, look, check".
"Do this by checking anything unusual out with your doctor and attending breast screening if you are over 50, as these are the best ways to identify breast cancer early," she added.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Scottish women, taking the lives of 1,000 women every year.
