Yoga for asthma treatment
Researchers at the American College of Sports Medicine are reporting that asthma attacks would reduce with the increase of yoga practice.
They put a group of asthmatic patients through two yoga classes a week. They also asked them to do some yoga exercises for an extra 30 minutes at home. At the end of the trial all participants said that their symptoms had reduced and their quality of life had improved by more than 40 per cent.
Breathing exercises simulate conditions similar to an asthma attack and help to handle it better. They also help to strengthen the muscles of lungs.
"Yoga is an excellent way to relieve symptoms because there are no side-effects, unlike modern medicine such as corticosteroids," said the lead researcher Amy Bidwell. "For some people, regular yoga could mean they need less medication."
