Ordeal of disabled man left standed on freezing mountain by 'pals'
A DISABLED man, who was left stranded by friends on Mount Snowdon, has spoken of his ordeal for the first time.
Carl Hodgetts, aged 32, was abandoned halfway up the highest peak in Wales in his wheelchair.
He was with a group of climbers from Coventry on a fundraising trek. But when the going got too tough, his team called mountain rescue and left him behind to wait for three hours in the cold.
Carl, who has had spina bifida from birth, told the Telegraph the climb was ‘‘stupid” and badly organised but hasn’t ruled out trying again.
He said: “Next time I’ll go with more experienced climbers and do some proper training beforehand.”
'While I was stuck there I did feel let down by my mates'
A MAN who tried to scale Mount Snowdon in a wheelchair but was abandoned by his mates has admitted the expedition was “stupid” and badly planned.
Disabled Carl Hodgetts, who is a black belt in martial arts, was taking part in a world record attempt to see how many martial arts fans could reach the summit.
