Sardinia doubles title for Burdekin
Paralympian Jamie Burdekin won his first quad doubles title of the 2009 NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour on Friday, partnering Sweden's Johan Andersson to a three set victory over Canada's Sarah Hunter and Dorrie Timmermans-Van Hall at the ITF 1 Series Sardinia Open in Alghero.
A day after Hunter beat Burdekin in three sets in the semi-finals of the quad singles, top seeds Burdekin and Andersson made a great start against the second seeds, but found themselves having to go to a deciding set before eventually sealing a 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 victory.
Burdekin's performances in Sardinia consolidate his world No.6 quad singles and quad doubles rankings in the latest wheelchair tennis world rankings published this week by the International Tennis Federation.
