Open all year, 7 days a week. Situated in the Pavilion theatre on the Esplanade, the centre has good access with a ramp to the automatic sliding doors. 3 disabled parking bays, plus 12 free 30 minute parking bays outside. Fully accessible cafe & bar. Disabled toilet. Radar Keys can be purchased from the Tourist Information Centre. Accessible brochure and audio guide available.

Accessibility to the centre within the Lighthouse is varied. The lighthouse tower itself is not accessible for wheelchair users. The visitor centre has interactive displays and exhibitions of natural history, quarrying and sculpture. A Tourist Information Centre is also located within the building and is open 7 days a week during peak season, 5 days during shoulder seasons, plus bank holiday weekends and most Sundays during the winter. There is a large car park and accessible toilet facilities adjacent in Portland Bill Car Park.
Weymouth Beach and Esplanade
ENCAMS award winning beach with designated areas for visitors with dogs (May – Sept). Poop-Scoops are available from the Tourist Information Centre. There are several ramps onto the main sandy beach and further ramps onto the Greenhill and Preston pebble beaches. Various attractions and amenities are situated on the beach and Esplanade for you and your family to enjoy. The Preston beach promenade, running from Greenhill to Overcombe Corner is completely flat, as is the main town Esplanade.
To create greater mobility for wheelchair users on the beach, a specially designed beach wheelchair is now in use. Available from May to September between 9am and 5pm. These are free of charge and can be loaned on a half-day or full-day basis, subject to availability. Further information and bookings can be made through the Outdoor Leisure Office Tel: 01305 838511. Open all year and located above the Tourist Information Centre, this office supervises the beach facilities and Esplanade management. All staff are radio linked to ensure the smooth running of this key area.
A first aid post and lost children’s centre operate during the summer season only, located on the beach opposite the Tourist Information Centre. Many of our top events take place on the beach or in the bay, and all are free to spectate, making this the most popular area for many of our visitors. Please see the enclosed Events leaflet for accurate information.
The Esplanade LAND TRAIN operates during the summer season from outside the Tourist Information Centre. If you want to save time and energy, take the train and enjoy a scenic ride, passing Greenhill Gardens en route to the terminus opposite Lodmoor Country Park. There are plenty of accessible toilets in and around Weymouth. Most are operated by Radar Keys, which can be purchased from Tourist Information Centres – £3 and from the Dorset Association for the Disabled, situated within the Outdoor Education Centre, Knightsdale Road, Weymouth.
